Striking The Crabs in the Bucket...

The nation was shocked with a disturbing news late night of September 2, 2016 when an explosion happened in Davao City that killed innocent lives and left others injured.

Due to the attack that was admitted by the Abu Sayyaf, the president declared a "State of Lawless Violence" and alerted military and police for heightened coordination to suppress other possible terrorism threats.

Once again, Davao City is on the eye of local and foreign media. Social networks is flooded with posts using the hashtags #PrayForDavao, #StayStrongDavao and #TindogDabaw as a way of strengthening the confidence of Davaoenos.

But the serious incident was tainted because of these netizens who are ill-minded who used the bombing incident to mock the president and the city itself.

It seems that some of us have lost the sense of brotherhood and solidarity in such a time where a misfortune just happened to our fellow Filipinos. Personally, I was deeply in remorse for these kind of people who can instantly post negative comments on their social accounts instead of sending their prayers or a simple act of sympathy.

Are we consumed by our crab mentality?

Are we gulped down by our selfishness?

Are we devoured by our apathy?

When France was bombed, we quickly posted with hashtag #PrayForFrance. But when a city in our very own country was attacked, we scornfully say "Safe ba talaga...Ay hindi pala safe?"

That was an obvious act of indifference and insensitivity. A statement that clearly says we are pulling down each other, folks!

On this side, we really don't know a thing about compassion. We lack the virtue that enables us to understand the feelings of other people. Rather than criticize, why not help? Or if we can't say a good word then shut up. Let's stop dragging each other. We rise by lifting others!

We want the Philippines to change. But we missed out the point of that change. We forget to check our attitude. We fail to correct ourselves. Unless we stop on focusing too much on ourselves, we will never learn to strike the crabs in the bucket.
