The Boyband Era is Back!

I was a child of the 90's and growing up in these years is perhaps the most unforgettable of all the generations. And what makes those years really memorable is the music that we've grown up to. One of those are the hits that really left an indelible mark in our memories - the boyband songs.

Who could forget the pop hits of Moffats, Boyzone, Backstreet Boys, Westlife, NSYNC, 5ive, 98 Degrees, and A1? These band names soared to popularity and created a global craze among teenagers on that era. Since then, the boyband mania continued to captivate the taste of fans for music and new names rose to fame just like the phenomenal One Direction who gained millions of followers since 2011.

It's 2016 and it seems the boyband mania is not yet over. Their music genres still exist and even takes another level of upgrade. Unlike before where certain producers came up with instant band members and their type of songs, today reality shows run the experiment to look for the next musical phenomenon.

In September 2015, creator Simon Cowell and producer Ricky Martin came up with a Latin American singing competition entitled La Banda. The goal of the series is to look for talented young men to make the next popular boyband. The auditionees need to pass the phases of the competition by virtue of the decision of the three judges and an all-female voting crowd until the ultimate group is completed.

Luckily, ABS-CBN got the rights of the said singing competition and improvised its title to "Pinoy Boyband Superstar". The reality show aims to find new Pinoy boybands that will bring romance and good music to TV viewers. This will be hosted by international RNB star Billy Crawford and will be judged by three superstar judges - Vice Ganda, Sandara Park, Yeng Constantino and Aga Muhlach.

Carrying a catchphrase "One Dream, One Team, Pinoy Boyband Superstar will rock your world starting September 10 replacing the third season of The Voice Kids.
